Major Changes in Auction Feedback on eBay Auctions to Begin on Monday
|
EBay will start having major changes to their feedback system beginning on Monday. No more giving out those nasty negative comments or neutral comments to your customers. Watch out sellers for the scammers, this could be a breeding ground for even more fraudulent buyers.
Small sellers may be moving elsewhere to sell their goods. In protest several sellers say they will not post any feedback at all because of this new policy.
Ebay said that they did this change in feedback ratings saying that the sellers would leave retaliatory feedback to negative feedback that they received. What eBay doesn’t know is that customers will work this to their favor if they intend to commit fraud. No one will know who stole the credit card or bounced the check any longer.
Ebay said that there will be a behind the scenes options available to the sellers. They will be able to block people that have been reported for policy violations, which include feedback extortion and non-payment of auction item. The did specifically say for credit card fraud or bounced checks but they said that there will be an improvement on the sellers “reporting hub” that will help make it easier to notify eBay of problems with buyers.
If I remember correctly in the past it was almost impossible to navigate through their “reporting hub” and the time that it would take was painful. I would hope to see this improvement to be dramatic. Especially if they are putting the seller at the mercy of this system to rely on reports for buyer fraud.
Ebay sellers know that they are going to be at the mercy of how well eBay addresses the problem which has been terrible in the past. While eBay has hopes of expanding their business and profitability with this change as well as fee restructuring it may actually hurt them in the long run as sellers go elsewhere to sell their goods.
One problem that the negative feedback on a seller can do is to put a hold on PayPal and also put a seller low on the Best Match search. This could put a halt to sellers that don’t sell much on eBay and get one negative in a month. If you sell hundreds of items in a month negative feedback doesn’t hurt as much.
One problem that sellers think may also happen is that competition might sign up and bid on items to give negative feedback just to get rid of the competition.
Other websites might gain in popularity such as onlineauction.com or even amazon.com because of these changes.
